“Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” was the one-two punch from Marvel Studios that ended “The Infinity Saga” that was launched with “Iron Man” back in 2008. Audiences are understandably curious when “Avengers 5” will happen and if that’ll be another two-part story.
Collider was able to speak with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige while promoting “Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Ten Rings” and asked when “Avengers 5” will happen. The usually evasive studio head attempted to give an answer that sounds hopeful, but we’re going to have to be patient.
“I think we want there to be a reasonable amount of time from [‘Avengers: Endgame’] to start a new saga, which is already underway and already started. And then you need time, as you did in Phase One, to build that saga before you start bringing everyone together,” Feige told Collider when we should expect “Avengers 5” to happen.
It’s worth mentioning that it took five films before releasing “The Avengers” in 2012 and giving proper introductions to all those characters. That might seem like many movies, but it arguably could be even more as characters like Moon Knight, Blade, Deadpool, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Shang-Chi, etc., still have to grow and integrate into the MCU.
There is also a good chance Feige is alluding to their reboot plans for “Fantastic Four” and “X-Men,” factoring into when a fifth installment happens. Those films will likely have to happen first. A lineup could also consist of multiple members of The Young Avengers as well, given how many of those characters are already running around or about to be introduced to fans. There’s also a lot of “mini-Avengers” movies along the way to keep audiences satisfied for those kinds of big MCU team-ups anyhow, “Thor: Love & Thunder” which contains the Guardians Of The Galaxy, “Doctor Strange 2” which will feature Wanda and American Chavez, the “Hawkeye” series will feature Kate Bishop and the Yelena, the new Black Widow, plus the all-star “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Audiences shouldn’t be too impatient; there will be lots of crossover in the next few years with even more planned, surely.
We could speculate about the threat of “Avengers 5,” as Jonathan Majors‘ Kang The Conqueror was introduced in “Loki” with his manipulative variant running the TVA, and the more dangerous version will be the antagonist of “Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania.” Seeing Kang being involved in some “Secret Wars” plot wouldn’t be that shocking; an epic assembling of multiple Marvel Comics teams and something the Russo Brothers have said would be a project that would coax them back to the MCU.
“Shang-Chi” will debut exclusively in theaters on September 3 and will give us their first leading Asian superhero, which will likely be part of the roster of “Avengers 5” when it comes together.
