'Venom 3' Director Teases New Film Is "Just The Beginning" For Villian Knull

Everything about the new ‘Venom’ film would make you believe it’s the final one in the franchise. Hell, it’s even called “Venom: The Last Dance.” But according to the filmmaker behind the movie, the franchise is far from over. Huh?

In a recent interview with IGN, “Venom: The Last Dance” writer-director Kelly Marcel talked about the introduction of the villain Knull in the film. In the most recent trailer, Venom tells Eddie that his creator is coming, who we find out is called Knull. This jives with the comic books where Knull is the big bad of the symbiote planet. Now, considering this seems like the last film in the ‘Venom’ franchise, making Knull the villain makes a lot of sense. However, the director of the film is telling us that this is just the beginning for Knull—meaning he’s going to have more screen time in the future.

“We were always aware of Knull, but knew that we needed to lay the foundation of the Venom character, and his relationship with Eddie, before introducing him. This is just the beginning for Knull,” Marcel said. “We’re in spoiler territory now and we hope some of the fun of watching this movie is not knowing what will happen, but trust me, we know full well how important Knull is to the fans, so just as we laid a foundation for Venom, we hope we are doing the same for Knull. The King in Black is way too powerful for ‘one and done.’”

So, if this is the last ‘Venom’ film and Knull is only now being introduced, where might we see the story go in the future? Well, there’s the possibility that there are more ‘Venom’ movies coming, but that doesn’t seem likely, as Tom Hardy has seemingly confirmed this is the end of the road. Perhaps there’s a spinoff focusing on another symbiote? That would be odd, but not out of the question.

Or maybe, just maybe, Knull is the big bad of all the ‘Spider-Man’ spinoff films and we’re going to see some sort of mega crossover with Venom, Morbius, Kraven, Madame Web, and every other character that Sony has tried to make into a thing combining forces for an ‘Avengers’-style team-up?

Regardless, it would appear that there’s more to the ‘Venom’ franchise after ‘The Last Dance.’ To watch your introduction to Knull, you can see “Venom: The Last Dance” when it hits theaters on October 25.
