Sam Neill, Anthony LaPaglia & Sebastian Stan Also On Board
Vera Farmiga and Mia Wasikowska are set to boost their already strong indie cred as they lead a strong cast in the upcoming film adaptation of Arthur Miller‘s play “A View From A Bridge.”
Sam Neill, Sebastian Stan and Anthony LaPaglia (who is also producing the film) round out the cast for the 1950s Brooklyn-set story that centers on Eddie whose world is thrown into turmoil with the arrival of his wife’s cousins from Italy. He becomes obsessed and jealous when his niece Catherine (Wasikowska) falls for one of the cousins. LaPaglia will play Eddie — a role for which he won a Tony award in 1998 — Farmiga will play his wife and we presume Neill and Stan will be the immigrant cousins (the latter being the love interest for Wasikowska).
The project has a script from Andrew Bovell (“Edge Of Darkness,” “Lantana“) and will be directed Aussie helmer Robert Connolly (“Balibo“) but this won’t be the first film to be made from the material as Sidney Lumet directed a French-language version in 1962. And it won’t even be La Paglia’s first attempt at mounting the work: the actor has the rights to the Miller play and back in 2005 tried to get a film off the ground with Barry Levinson directing and Scarlett Johansson and Frances McDormand in supporting roles, but it never materialized. Clearly, this is a project close to his heart and he once again has a solid cast: we hope it gets moving this time around.
Production is scheduled to begin in June with shooting to take place in New York and Melbourne. Protagonist will rep the film to buyers at the Berlin market next month. [Variety]
