‘Verity’: Anne Hathaway Reteaming With Michael Showalter On A Colleen Hoover Adaptation

After working together on a recent film, “The Idea of You,” it appears Anne Hathaway and Michael Showalter are reteaming for the upcoming film, “Verity.”

Here’s the synopsis:

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of best-selling thriller author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series that his wife is unable to finish after a mysterious accident. Upon arrival at the lavish Crawford estate, Lowen slowly learns that things are not exactly as they seem with the discovery of a secret, unfinished manuscript that may divulge chilling admissions about the family’s past. As Lowen ingratiates herself with Jeremy and his young son Crew, she must discern if Verity’s writings are merely lurid works of fiction or an ominous warning by a deranged psychopath.

For those unfamiliar, Colleen Hoover is one of the most popular authors working today. Earlier this year, an adaptation of her bestselling novel “It Ends With Us” went on to earn nearly $350 million worldwide. So, there’s a lot of hype when one of her novels gets optioned.

In addition to “The Idea of You,” Hathaway has recent appeared in projects such as “Mothers’ Instinct,” “She Came to Me,” and “Eileen.” She’s also expected to star in “The Princess Diaries 3.”

Showalter broke out in a big way as a filmmaker thanks to his work on “The Big Sick.” Since then, he’s directed films such as “The Lovebirds,” “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” and “Spoiler Alert.”

It’s unclear when we might see “Verity” arrive in theaters.
