With “Warhammer 40,000” delayed, Henry Cavill joins another project at Amazon MGM. Deadline reports that the British actor will star in the studio upcoming feature adaptation of the anime “Voltron.”  Daniel Quinn-Toye was already announced to star, with Rawson Marshall Thurber directing.

As for who Cavill (or Quinn-Toye for that matter) plays, Amazon MGM won’t disclose anything just yet.  The film’s storyline, penned by Thurber and Ellen Shanman remains under wraps, too. But Thurber and Shanman have plenty of “Voltron” they could adapt. The acclaimed 1970s animated TV sreies, which originally aired between 1984 and 1985, adapted several Japanese anime seres from Toei Animation and became an immediate hit with US audiences. The original series followed space explorers who pilot a giant robot named Voltron; Cavill and Quinn-Toye will undoubtedly be part of that team. But Thurber’s movie could adapt the animated series’ first season, “Lion Force Voltron,” the second, “Vehicle Team Voltron,” or something from the show’s three follow-up series. Or the new film could be an all-new in medias res-style adventure that provides zero set-up at all.

In any case, “Voltron” is one of several buzzy ’80s IPs Amazon MGM has snagged recently. The studio also snatched up the rights to “Masters Of The Universerecently, with that adaptation due in theaters on June 5, 2026. But no word when “Voltron” will reach audiences yet, despite Amazon MGM winning the bidding war for it in 2022.  Maybe in late 2026/early 2027?

“Voltron” producers include Todd Lieberman through Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar, Thurber, and David Hoberman for Hobie Films.

As for Cavill, he adds “Voltron” to a list of upcoming films that includes Guy Ritchie‘s “In The Grey,” in theaters next January, and Chad Stahelski‘s “Highlander” adaptation. That’s plenty of stuff to keep the actor busy until “Warhammer 40,000” moves forward again.
