‘Warfare’ Trailer: Alex Garland & Ray Mendoza’s War Thriller Stars Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis & More

How did one assignment change the lives of a Navy SEAL platoon? “Warfare” explores the events surrounding a treacherous mission. The A24 film sees a platoon tasked with monitoring forces as they traverse dangerous territory. Their chosen location, an Iraqi family home, may be perfect for the mission, but it comes with its own drawbacks. “Warfare” hails from Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland. The pair are co-directors as well as screenwriters on the project.

Mendoza previously served as military advisor on Garland’s acclaimed thriller “Civil War.” This upcoming film marks his first time writing and directing a feature. It is inspired by real events Mendonza encountered while serving in Iraq.

Warfare” relies on an all-star cast to tell this important story. D’pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Michael Gandolfini, Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo, Evan Holtzman, and Henrique Zaga co-star — with Joseph Quinn and Charles Melton also featured in the project. D’pharaoh Woon-A-Tai portrays Ray Mendoza. The actor briefly discussed the upcoming role during an Elle interview, stating it was important to “tell a story from a Native soldier’s lens.”

Written and Directed by Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland (Civil War, 28 Days Later), Warfare embeds audiences with a platoon of American Navy SEALs in the home of an Iraqi family, overwatching the movement of US forces through insurgent territory. A visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare, said like never before: in real-time and based on the memory of the people who lived it.
