Watch: 2 ESPN Ads Directed By David Gordon Green & Roman Coppola’s Windows Phone Commercial

nullCommercials can allow filmmakers to keep their muscles toned and play with a decent budget, and they can make some pretty decent money for themselves in the process. It’s an attractive offer for those who might be waiting for their next feature to line up, or just looking to keep the skills honed between gigs. The ad circuit has been attracting high-caliber talent for a long time; the likes of Joe Wright for Chanel, Wes Anderson for Hyundai and Nicolas Winding Refn for Yves Saint Laurent. Now a couple more filmmakers familiar with the promo world have some new material to show off.

First up, David Gordon Green — who has “Prince Avalanche” on the way to theaters — has dropped two quick spots for ESPN. Not much to say about them, except that he delivers what viewers want from those kind of things. Remember a few weeks about when that GE commercial was going around because it featured Agent Smith from “The Matrix“? Guess who directed that? Yep, that was David Gordon Green too, rather surprisingly. You can see all three spots below.

Next up, Roman Coppola who spent the past year busy getting the word out about both “Moonrise Kingdom” (which he co-wrote) and “A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III” (which he wrote and directed.) He’s gone back behind the camera for a Windows Phone spot. You’ve probably already seen this (seriously, Windows spent some crazy ad money to place this) but in case you haven’t, it uses a wedding to show that you can make more than two choices when it comes to phones. Watch the ad and the making of below. [Marketing Magazine]
