Watch: 4 Clips From Ryan Gosling's Directorial Debut 'Lost River' Plus Lots Of New Pics

Lost River"I didn’t set out to make a surreal film but I wanted to capture the surreal qualities of life," Ryan Gosling explained to Total Film about his directorial debut. "It’s about these characters and about a woman who has a dream of a home and family and she’s maintaining that dream within the walls of that home. But right outside the door is a nightmare."

But despite his intentions, our review noted that the film seems to be influenced in tone and style by David Lynch, Nicolas Winding Refn, and Dario Argento among others. And certainly the premise of the film — which stars Matt Smith, Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan, Ben Mendelsohn and Eva Mendes, and tells the fantastical story of a mother, son and an underwater world — is not your standard narrative. But today, four clips from the movie have made their way online (via Ryan Gosling Addicted) and they provide a good sense of the tone and visual approach Gosling took with his film.

"Lost River" opens in limited release and arrives on home video this spring. Watch below and check out a batch of new pics.
