While we wait for his HBO series “True Detective” with Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey and his 2-film adaptation of Stephen King’s “It,” Cary Fukunaga has shot and released a new gorgeous short film.
Produced on high-end fashion brand Maiyet’s dime, the East Africa-set short film “Sleepwalking in the Rift” continues the Terrence Malick-esque flair that the “Sin Nombre” and “Jane Eyre” helmer displayed in his ads for Levi's. It even co-stars Haley Bennett, one of the many actors cast in Malick’s untitled film that’s set around the Austin music scene.
The short film centers on Bennett and “Snabba Cash” and “Safe House” star Fares Fares (next seen in “Zero Dark Thirty”) falling in love against the lush landscape of East Africa. Apparently the short film is only one of “a 30-minute series of short vignettes featuring the Maiyet Resort 2013 collection to premiere in London this week.” We’re not really sure if or when the rest of the series will hit the internet, but we’ll be sure to keep an eye out. Check out the video below, along with one of the ads Fukunaga did for Levi's.
