It has been three years since Sigur Ros‘ last album, Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust, and with the band still on an indefinite hiatus — and with frontman Jonsi busying himself with a solo career and scoring Cameron Crowe‘s upcoming “We Bought A Zoo” — it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing any new material from them anytime soon. But not to worry, Sigur Ros fans, they haven’t completely closed the tap as they’ve got a brand new concert movie coming out, just in time for your holiday shopping.
Directed by Vincent Morrisset (Arcade Fire‘s “Mirroir Noir“), “Inni” arrived at the Venice Days sidebar of the Venice Film Festival as a bit of a mystery last month, but quickly revealed itself to be a concert documentary. But this isn’t your ordinary stick-some-cameras-around-the-stage-and-shoot-the-band effort. Called in as the band were winding down their tour for Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust, Morisset was tasked with documenting their two-night stand at London’s Alexandra Palace and pitched a unique approach that favors handheld HD and “surveillance” cameras to capture the intimacy of their songs, while the transfer to 16mm gives the picture its textured, blown-out look. Running 75 minutes, the concert is unlike any other and as the clip below from NPR reveals, “Inni” places a strong emphasis on mood which consequently puts the music in sharp focus.
The film and accompanying soundtrack will hit store shelves on November 15th in a variety of formats and will do a solid run of festival screenings in the lead up to its release. Check out the clip and a bunch of pics from the film below.
