We here at The Playlist have a particular soft spot for dogs. That said, it doesn’t mean we’ll give an easy pass to a movie just because it might prominently feature man’s best friends (much we wanted to adore Tom Hardy‘s puppy party in "The Drop"). But when a movie comes along like "White God" that features all of the dogs, well, we’re going to go in with our tails wagging. And believe us, this movie is worth the time.
Directed by Kornél Mundruczó and featuring some humans along with an insane amount of dogs, the movie is a metaphorical look at the social and political tides in Europe via a group of dogs deemed "unfit" by the The State who rise up against the humans who have discarded them. And the high concept really works, with our review calling the picture "a triumphantly idiosyncratic film with smarts and visceral impact in equal measure."
Winner of the Prize Un Certain Regard Award at Cannes, "White God" barks on March 27th, will screen at Sundance next month and is Hungary’s official entry for the Oscars this year. Watch below.
