Watch: Don Cheadle Launches Indiegogo Campaign For Miles Davis Biopic ‘Miles Ahead’

Don Cheadle Miles Davis

To say that Don Cheadle has been passionate about making a Miles Davis biopic would be an understatement. For years upon years, the actor has been developing “Miles Ahead” (formerly known as “Kill The Trumpet Player“) but been unable to get it off the ground. Musical biopics in general are tricky to get made (with the rights involved sometimes messy and complicated) and as we’ve seen lately, the studio climate hasn’t exactly been the most welcoming to non-tentpole projects. So Cheadle has turned to crowd-funding to get this over the hump and in front of cameras, and an Indiegogo campaign has now been launched.

The goal is a modest one compared to other recent celebrity crowdfunding campaigns, with Cheadle seeking $325,000 by July 6th so he can start rolling on the film. “Miles Ahead” will find him playing the jazz legend, with the story following a few dangerous days in the life of the music icon, as he bursts out of his silent period and conspires with a Rolling Stone writer to steal back his music. And playing that writer? The previously reported Ewan McGregor, though it’s not clear if Zoe Saldana is still attached to portray Miles’ wife Frances Davis.

The pieces all look to be in place, with Cheadle securing the support of Davis’ family and landing Herbie Hancock to score the movie. And if all goes to plan, “Miles Ahead” will shoot this summer. And while the idea of giving your own cash to movie productions is still a somewhat controversial one, there is no doubt that you’d be supporting something that Cheadle is deeply invested in. So watch his campaign video below (and follow it to the end to see him play the trumpet too) and hit Indiegogo for more details.
