Watch: First Clip From Fernando Meirelles’ ‘360’ Starring Anthony Hopkins

Unfortunately, Fernando Meirelles’ “360” had a rough premiere at TIFF just a couple of weeks back. Technical glitches delayed the single press screening by more than an hour, which caused scheduling problems for many people, who had to bail on seeing the picture. And at the splashy red carpet event for the movie, screenwriter Peter Morgan reportedly bailed on the Q&A, infuriated by the sound problems during the screening. When the reviews finally came back, the response from both critics and audiences were muted at best. Well, here’s hoping things go a bit more smoothly for the film when it opens the BFI London Film Festival next month, and for those of you who will be attending, here’s small taste of “360,” courtesy of the fest.

Starring Rachel Weisz, Jude Law, Anthony Hopkins and Ben Foster, the film is a retelling of the classic Arthur Schnitzler play “Reigen” that will chronicle the simple decision by one man to remain faithful to his wife and how it creates a ripple effect on various people worldwide, opening a window into modern relationships. The film is presented as a series of vignettes that eventually overlap or interconnect in a global tale that spans Vienna, Paris, London, Bratislava, Rio, Denver and Phoenix. Our man at TIFF who caught the film was disappointed, noting that it suffers from an overabundance of storylines that are “afraid to go a little darker (like its sexually frank opening), dig a little deeper, and develop its characters beyond their stereotypes.” As for this clip, it centers on Hopkins’ character, a recovering alcoholic who is searching for his long-lost daughter.

The film is currently without a distributor in the U.S. so no word on a release date. Check out the clip below. The BFI London Film Festival runs from October 12-27.
