Need more evidence that some of the most exciting storytelling is happening on television and not at your local multiplex? Look no further than HBO‘s “True Detective,” which has just dropped its first teaser and already has us placing this series way up high on our most anticipated of whatever for 2014.
The talent here is top shelf with Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and Michelle Monaghan featuring in the Cary Fukunaga directed series, written by Nic Pizzolatto. It centers on two detectives, Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson), whose lives collide and entwine during a seventeen-year hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana. The investigation of a bizarre murder in 1995 is framed and interlaced with testimony from the detectives in 2012, when the case has been reopened. If all goes well, subsequent seasons will follow “The Killing” model of having one crime investigated and solved each time out.
An eight-episode first season is booked and ready for 2014, and yes, Fukunaga has directed every single episode. Awesome. Check out the teaser below, which is short on footage but gives you the money shot of McConaughey and Harrelson right at the end. And there’s another official still up top via EW.
