Are we possibly looking at a career rebound for Ryan Reynolds? Kicking off the year with good notices for the Sundance oddball comedy “The Voices,” the actor will be packing his bags shortly for Cannes where Atom Egoyan‘s “The Captive” will premiere. And now the first trailer has arrived.
To be honest, Egoyan’s output of late has been patchy at best (his previous effort, “The Devil’s Knot,” is a bit of a misfire) but we’re compelled by this one. Co-starring Scott Speedman, Mireille Enos, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Durand, Alexia Fast and Bruce Greenwood, the film rides a “Prisoners“-esque vibe—set along in a longer timeline—the psychological thriller examines how the kidnapping of a man’s young daughter destroys the relationships among those involved. As the film teases out the complex threads weaving together the victim, her family, the predators and the investigators, the mystery is revealed as to what happened to the child during the eight years she was missing.
eOne will distribute the film in Canada and is handling international sales. Watch below and check out a few new photos as well.
