Watch: First Trailer For Longest Cannes Contender, Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s ‘Winter Sleep’, Plus 5-Minute Making-Of Video

Winter Sleep

Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan seems to be luxuriating in longer runtimes lately. Three years ago, he hit Cannes with the nearly three hour “Once Upon A Time In Anatolia,” and took home a Grand Jury Prize for his efforts. This year, he’s back in Competition with “Winter Sleep,” easily the longest of the Palme d’Or contenders, running three hours and sixteen minutes. And the first trailer for the movie is here.

Apologies, but this one is in Turkish with French subtitles. That being said, you can still get a sense of the feel and tone of the picture. The film tells the story of a former actor who works with his wife, with whom he battles, and his recently divorced sister in managing a hotel, and as winter comes, the building becomes their refuge too. But for even more (and with some help via English subtitles), you can also check out a five-minute video about the making of the movie, specifically as it pertains to the Sony F65 digital camera, which Ceylan used for the production.

Watch it all below along with a few new pics from the film. No word yet on U.S. distribution.
