The "Night At The Museum" films have been a terrific cash cow for 20th Century Fox, director Shawn Levy and actor Ben Stiller. Four quadrant in all the right ways, the first surprise hit film grossed $575 million worldwide and the sequel, while not quite as gangbusters, still took in $413 million globally. So far, the films have explored the Museum of Natural History and The Smithsonian, but in the third film, ‘Secret Of The Tomb,’ Stiller, Owen Wilson and his growing gang of historical figure friends venture outside.
"We have brought museums to life, but we have never really explored the idea of taking the magic into the world. This movie really goes beyond the museum walls," Shawn Levy told USA Today. "We are out in London, on a double-decker bus, in Trafalgar Square. It’s a juicy idea we haven’t explored."
And yep, right on cue, the trailer for the third film has arrived. The plot of this one? Stiller’s security guard protagonist and museum exhibits including Pharaoh Ahkmenrah (Rami Malek), Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams), Attila the Hun (Patrick Gallagher), Sacajawea (Mizuo Peck), Roman centurion Octavius (Steve Coogan) and Jedediah (Owen Wilson) wind up at the British Museum’s famed Egyptian wing to solve a deadly mystery.
Families seem to dig these films and they always nab pretty good talent, so they must be fun to make too. “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” stars Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Dan Stevens, Ricky Gervais, Rebel Wilson, Sir Ben Kingsley and Owen Wilson. The movie lands in theaters on December 19th. Watch the trailer below and tell us what you think.
