We’re all for high concept movies, particularly when it comes to animation which lends itself to fanciful stories, but this writer is still struggling to figure out “Turbo.” In short: it’s about a snail who gets super-powered with nitrous oxide, busts out of the snail racing circuit (huh?) to compete at the Indy 500 (wha?). Okay, but this better have more than slow motion jokes…oh wait…
A new, full length trailer has arrived for DreamWorks Animation‘s summer contender, and dodgy concept aside, it looks like the kind of thing that could be a hit with the kids. Ryan Reynolds lead the voice cast as the titular Turbo, who gets a supercharged shell and races his way to fame. Most of the laughs are centered around being slow or not slow, and depending on how much mileage that gets with you, will likely determine how charming or not you find this. But the voice cast is pretty solid with Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph and Snoop Dogg all getting into the recording both.
