Watch The Gripping Full Trailer For Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dunkirk’

When it was announced that Christopher Nolan was going to make a World War II film, it marked a break from the fare the director’s best known for: it’s the first time he’s made a non sci-fi or superhero film since “Insomnia” in 2002, and the first time he’s tackled a real-world event. Could he find a way to stand out from other WW2 movies?  Well, judging by what we’ve seen regarding “Dunkirk,” while the film tackles a genre that we’ve seen before, Nolan’s breathtaking visuals make the film feel wholly original.

And that remains true with the new trailer for what might be the most anticipated movie of the summer. Tackling the true story of Operation Dynamo, the evacuation of the British Army from Northern France, which saw 338,000 men rescued from the jaws of death, often by ordinary British civilians in fishing boats, in the like, it looks like Nolan’s gone full David Lean, but in his own inimitable style. Like most Nolan films, the cast for “Dunkirk” is stacked, with Kenneth Branagh, Mark RylanceCillian Murphy, and Tom Hardy leading a mostly unknown young cast (including “One Direction“‘s Harry Styles). “Interstellar” cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema returns, as does composer Hans Zimmer.

Are audiences ready for another WWII film? Is “Dunkirk” the right move for Nolan after the massive ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy and “Interstellar?” The world will find out when “Dunkirk” opens on July 21. Watch the trailer below.
