While outrageous comedies have generally been the domain for boys, the crew from “Bridesmaids” looks to upset that balance. The first trailer for the film has arrived and gives us some hearty laughs from its talented roster.
The massive ensemble cast is led by Kristen Wiig (who-co wrote the film), and includes Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Jon Hamm, Jill Clayburgh, Matthew Lucas, Chris O’Dowd, Ellie Kemper, Melissa McCarthy and Wendy McLendon-Covey. The film centers on Annie (Wiig), a simple and single 30-something Midwestern girl (with a poor dating track record) who is asked to be her best friend Lillian’s (Rudolph) maid of honor. However, having never done the job, she struggles to please the snobby, rich bridesmaids at every pre-wedding event. One of Lillian’s best friends is essentially the bridesmaid from hell (Byrne) — who attempts to take over the maid of honor duties from the inexperienced Annie.
We have to say, this first trailer is breath of fresh air and looks like a lot of fun. It looks like everyone in the extensive cast is stepping up their game and we’re glad to see amazingly funny people like Wiig and Rudolph given leading roles and a chance to shine. We think they’re making the most of the opportunity. And it certainly doesn’t hurt to have Judd Apatow producing and Paul Feig in the director’s chair. “Bridesmaids” hits on May 13th. This spring, producer Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, Superbad) and director Paul Feig (creator of Freaks and Geeks) invite you to experience Bridesmaids. Kristen Wiig leads the cast as Annie, a maid of honor whose life unravels as she leads her best friend, Lillian (Maya Rudolph), and a group of colorful bridesmaids (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) on a wild ride down the road to matrimony. Annie’s life is a mess. But when she finds out her lifetime best friend is engaged, she simply must serve as Lillian’s maid of honor. Though lovelorn and broke, Annie bluffs her way through the expensive and bizarre rituals. With one chance to get it perfect, she’ll show Lillian and her bridesmaids just how far you’ll go for someone you love.
