The talk of the Berlin International Film Festival in February, the buzz has somewhat quieted around "Weekend" director Andrew Haigh‘s latest effort "45 Years." But get ready for the buzz to start building again as the first trailer for the movie is here. It’s great stuff.
Taking the Silver Bear prizes for their performances, Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay play married couple Geoff and Kate Mercer who are celebrating 45 years of marriage. But their union is shaken when the body of Geoff’s long-dead girlfriend, Katya, who passed away in a tragic accident, has been discovered. And it opens up a door the past that had long been closed. It’s a film that has already earned rave reviews, with our Jessica Kiang calling the picture "so precisely calibrated, weighted, and measured" that long after the credits have rolled, you’ll still be feeling it.
Sundance Selects has acquired the U.S. rights, but no release date has been set. "45 Years" opens in the UK on Friday, August 28th. [The Guardian]
