Which should give some confidence to the makers of upcoming horror sequel/prequel thing “Ouija: Origin Of Evil.” 2014’s “Ouija,” based on the popular sleepover favorite board, wasn’t a huge blockbuster, but it did take $100 million worldwide off a $5 million budget, which must have made producers Michael Bay and Jason Blum very happy. So, we get this follow-up, which just dropped a new full-length trailer.
In the true tradition of horror sequels, not even the survivors of the previous film are returning: instead, this is a new story giving a sort of “Mad Men” spin to the genre, seeing a widowed mother (the excellent) Elizabeth Reaser, a scamming medium, and her two children haunted by an evil spirit.
The promising Mike Flanagan, who made “Hush” and “Oculus,” is writing and directing, so that hopefully means it’ll be a step up from the original, and the trailer certainly seems to suggest some competent score and decent production value. The movie opens October 21st — watch the trailer below.
