Watch: New Trailer For Martin Scorsese's Family Fairytale 'Hugo'

With Emily Mortimer recently telling us the film was a “hymn to the imagination,” and the picture creating some very strong buzz thanks to its recent surprise screening at the New York Film Festival where we said it was an “enchanting fairy tale,” we have to say that while we definitely encourage people to see Martin Scorsese‘s “Hugo“, the first trailer and now this most recent, aren’t doing much to instill excitement.

Still employing some odd, generic music to fill in — but thankfully ditching 30 Seconds To Mars — this newest spot for “Hugo” makes the mention of 3D almost as an afterthought, and replaces the slapstick from the first go round with a partially successful attempt to create a sense of adventure that mirrors that of the titular character. But it’s likely just that the film itself is a tough sell. As we noted in our report from NYFF, the film “may prove to be a divisive…It’s surely going to win over cinephiles, but there’s still a question about whether its old-fashioned storybook mien will connect with modern-day audiences.” So while there is much to enjoy and appreciate in Scorsese’s approach, whether or not it will play to fidgety kids and parents looking to digest their Thanksgiving dinner remains to be seen. But those who stick with it “will be rewarded, especially in the film’s magical finale, which arguably ranks among the most moving and loving sequences Scorsese has ever committed to celluloid. ” If that doesn’t spur you to see this, we don’t know what will.

Regardless, the new trailer is worth a peek if only to whet your appetite for the film. Asa Butterfield and Chloe Moretz lead a cast that includes Jude Law, Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Kingsley and more. “Hugo” opens on November 23rd — watch below. [via ComingSoon]
