Watch: Nicolas Winding Refn Introduces Restored ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ At Cannes

Nicolas Winding Refn Texas Chainsaw Massacre

We might already be in June, with the red carpets at Cannes rolled up, and put into storage for next year, but it seems there are a few odds and ends to tie up from the festival. Indeed, even with three people on the ground, we couldn’t cover everything and one event we missed has now partially made its way online.

Over in the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, Tobe Hooper‘s “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” got a special screening. Why? Well, it’s the fortieth anniversary of the landmark horror film, and it was been freshly restored with a digital 4K scan and spiffy 7.1 surround sound. And after hitting SXSW it traveled abroad to (re-)scare international audiences and who better to introduce the picture than Nicolas Winding Refn.

The filmmaker was on the Croisette as part of Jane Campion‘s campion, and while he may be a tough interview, he’s passionate and chatty here. Refn talks about how ‘Chainsaw’ was important in his dreams of becoming filmmaker, while also sharing anecdotes including his stint working for a film company, that found him at the age of twenty haunting the Cannes marketplace. It’s worth a spin, so check it out below. [First Showing]
