CBS Films is hoping to start of 2011 on solid footing after a dreadful 2010 that feature box office bombs like “Extraordinary Measures,” “The Back-Up Plan” and “Faster” stinking up multiplexes. Enter Jason Statham. Pretty much playing the same guy he plays in every movie, he stars in “The Mechanic” and it now has a fresh red-band trailer.
A remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson flick, the film follows a “mechanic” (code word for “hit man”) who takes on an apprentice who is the son of a dead man Donald Sutherland. They face off against Tony Goldwyn who wears very nice suits, drives around in a fancy car, and has a bunch of equally well dressed henchmen. Shit blows up. In the red-band trailer, we get see some more graphic scenes of shit blowing and dudes dropping f-bombs. There is also a boob. Anyway, it still looks kind of terrible, but if anything, Ben Foster looks likely to steal every scene he’s in and maybe Simon West (“Con Air“) will conjure some set pieces worth talking about. But we don’t have very high hopes.
“The Mechanic” opens on January 28, 2011 and you probably don’t want to watch this trailer at work. [IGN]
