If you Google “Wes Anderson parody,” you’ll find no shortage of videos offering their own slight barbs at the visually distinctive filmmaker. And, like most jokes on the internet, few of them are actually funny. But leave it “Saturday Night Live” to hit the home run in the category, serving up a parody on Anderson’s films that also manages to be something of a sweet homage at the same time.
Entitled “The Midnight Coterie Of Sinister Intruders,” it touches on all the markers Anderson has become known for in his films, from the meticulously designed sets, obsession with objects, use of stationary and letters and more. What makes it all work even more is the participation of Anderson players like Edward Norton playing Owen Wilson, and Alec Baldwin lending his distinctive pipes to the narration. It’s a good game of spot-the-reference for Anderson fans.
It’s pretty well done all around and it’s a lot of fun without ever getting mean-spirited. Take a look below.
