Looks like we’re in for a year of big creatures and small kids coming together to go on grand adventures. Steven Spielberg will get there first with this summer’s “The BFG,” but arriving in the fall is another fantasy tale based on a book, and it looks no less spectacular.
Starring Liam Neeson, Lewis MacDougall, Felicity Jones, Toby Kebbell, and Sigourney Weaver, based on the book by Patrick Ness, with Juan Antonio Bayona (“The Impossible,” “The Orphanage“) at the helm, the story follows a troubled 12-year-old whose life gets forever changed in a wildly unexpected way. Here’s the official synopsis:
A visually spectacular drama from acclaimed director Juan Antonio Bayona (“The Impossible”), based on the award-winning children’s fantasy novel. 12-year-old Conor (Lewis MacDougall) attempts to deal with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness and the bullying of his classmates by escaping into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales that explore courage, loss, and faith. Also featuring Liam Neeson who will star in performance-capture and voiceover as the nocturnally visiting monster of the title, and Sigourney Weaver as the maternal grandmother.
“A Monster Calls” opens on October 14, 2016. Watch below.
