Someone, somewhere deserves some credit when you watch a trailer for a film that you've already read negative reviews for, yet the trailer still makes you want to see it. That was the case for this writer when watching the trailer for Abel Ferrara's apocalyptic "4:44: Last Day On Earth." Our reviewer saw the film at NYFF last year and found that "for all its arty posturing, there's something anticlimactic and ultimately unfulfilling about the film." If that's the case then that's a real shame, because this is a fairly promising preview.
"4:44 Last Day On Earth" stars Willem Dafoe and Shanyn Leigh as an arty New York couple who have to decide how to spend their last day on Earth before it combusts at 4:44 the next morning (hence the title). The trailer itself looks suitably intimate and epic at the same time, but we can also already see how the film could be accused of pretentious. Regardless, there is a pretty interesting supporting cast on board including Paz de la Huerta and Natasha Lyonne, so we remain curious.
Anyway, see what you think when the film opens in limited release on March 23rd. [via FirstShowing]
