Watch: Trailer For Crooked Cop Documentary ‘The Seven Five’

The Seven FiveThe Seven Five” originally made its premiere at DOC NYC last November, where it gained enough buzz for Sundance Selects to buy the distribution rights a few months later. Now, a new trailer has been released for a film that should intrigue anyone interested in true stories about police corruption, particularly in the NYPD. If the trailer does indeed perk your interest, you can find the film in theaters and on VOD on May 7th and 8th, respectively.

So what exactly is “The Seven Five” about? The documentary tells the story of disgraced former police officer Michael Dowd, who, along with his partner, led a crew of corrupt cops that stole money from drug dealers and eventually became a part of a criminal ring, which eventually lead to his arrest in 1992. What’s striking about the trailer is that much of the testimony comes from Dowd himself, who bluntly admits to his crimes with a degree of remorse. “The Seven Five” also includes interviews from other key figures involved, as well as surveillance footage and Dowd’s original testimony. This documentary should prove to be especially timely given the increased amount of scrutiny over the actions of police officers all over the country.
