Watch: Trailer For Joachim Trier’s Cannes Flick ‘Oslo, 31 August’

Joachim Trier‘s 2008 debut “Reprise,” a kinetic, moving depiction of the friendship and rivalry between two young authors, is something of a favorite around these parts, and we’ve been eagerly awaiting the Norwegian director’s follow-up. That film, “Oslo, 31 August,” debuted as part of Un Certain Regard at Cannes this week and, while it doesn’t quite match up to its predecessor, it’s still a tender, beautifully shot picture.

And now you can see a glimpse for yourself, as TwitchFilm have debuted the first trailer for the film. In it, “Reprise” star Anders Danielsen Lee returns, in a very different role, as a suicidal man in rehab, who Trier follows across 24 hours in the Norwegian capital of the title. It, frankly, looks pretty great: Trier’s got his pulse on twenty/thirtysomethings in a way that few directors manage, and Oslo looks kind of glorious, enough so that we’re already casually looking up flights to check it out for ourselves.

The clip even closes with an exploding building money-shot just as impressive as anything found in the trailers for summer blockbusters this year. Watch the (slightly NSFW) trailer below. “Oslo, 31 August” doesn’t yet have U.S. distribution (although it’ll hit Norwegian theaters on, you guessed it, August 31st), but we hope that someone picks it up soon.
