After taking a siesta from movies to go to the stage with "Frankenstein" and tend to the London Olympics, Danny Boyle is coming back hard, and he's keeping it lean and mean. Leaning more towards his early thrillers than his later crowdpleasers, "Trance" is a heist film with an intriguing psychological bend, and apparently a bit more blood than we would have expected. A new red band trailer has arrived and the nervy pic just got even more interesting.
The basic set up is this: James McAvoy plays a fine art auctioneer who gets roped into the theft of a high priced painting, but wakes up with no memory of where he hid the artwork. The others in the gang begin to turn the screws, and he sees a therapist who will use hypnosis to try and help him remember. But as you'll see below, those segments push things right to the edge and holy shit Vincent Cassel is missing half his fucking head.
Though slated to open on April 5th, it was announced today that Danny Boyle would be stopping by SXSW for a panel presentation of his movie. While teaser footage is promised, could "Trance" also wind up being one of the festival's secret screenings? It's pure guesswork on our part, but anything can happen. Anyway, get your mind invaded below.
