Watch: Woody Allen Explains Why 'GoodFellas' Is A "Great American Movie"

nullWhile Woody Allen tends to not think much of his own output, he’s more than happy to recognize talent among his colleagues, and it may surprise some to know that Martin Scorsese‘s "GoodFellas" is one that he considers to be a "great American movie."

It’s hard to believe, but it was 22 years ago, on September 19, 1990 that the now classic gangster movie first hit cinemas. And to commemorate the occasion, AFI dipped into their archives and posted this vintage clip of Allen talking about what impressed him about the film. It’s nothing too surprising, with Allen noting the in-the-moment authenticity of the picture, but it’s still pretty fascinating to see a fellow filmmaker talk about Scorsese’s work.

Watch the clip below, and this might be a good time to remind you that more "GoodFellas" is on the way with AMC putting a TV series based on the movie into development, earlier this year.
