‘We Live In Time’ Trailer: Florence Pugh & Andrew Garfield Star In A Romantic Drama Coming In October

Already announced as one of the world premieres at the upcoming 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, the romantic drama “We Live In Time” is one of the most anticipated films of the year (and yes, it’s on our list of the 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2024).

And there are lots of reasons to be excited about this one. First off, the cast. “We Live In Time” stars Academy Award-nominated actors Florence Pugh (“Dune: Part II,” “Midsommar,” “Black Widow”) and Andrew Garfield (“The Social Network,” “Tick Tick… Boom”). Secondly, the director is Academy Award-nominated filmmaker John Crowley, and so, this makes the film a big reunion with Garfield. Known for directing the Oscar-nominated “Brooklyn” (which snagged a Best Picture nod in 2016) and episodes of “True Detective” and “Black Mirror,” Crowley is also known for his breakthrough 2007 film, “Boy A.” That film starred a then-unknown and young Andrew Garfield, and he won a BAFTA TV award for it in the U.K.  Garfield’s “Boy A” performance is so gripping that his career took off not long after, and he was soon landing gigs like “The Social Network” and the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ franchise. So it’s nice to see these too reunited again.

Written by Olivier award-winning playwright and screenwriter Nick Payne (“Constellations”), “We Live In Time” centers on an up-and-coming chef (Garfield) and a recent divorcée (Pugh), who find their lives forever changed when a chance encounter brings them together in a decade-spanning, deeply moving romance. The film also stars Adam James, Marama Corlett, and Aoife Hinds, but it mostly sounds like a two-hander between Garfield and Pugh.

Here’s the official synopsis from StudioCanal, which is releasing the film in the U.K.

Almut (Florence Pugh) and Tobias (Andrew Garfield) are brought together in a surprise encounter that changes their lives. Through snapshots of their life together — falling for each other, building a home, becoming a family — a difficult truth is revealed that rocks its foundation. As they embark on a path challenged by the limits of time, they learn to cherish each moment of the unconventional route their love story has taken in filmmaker John Crowley’s decade-spanning, deeply moving romance.

A24 is distributing the movie in the U.S. and will release it on October 11, 2024. StudioCanal will distribute the film in the U.K., France, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand, but no dates have been released for the picture in those territories yet. Watch the first trailer below.
