‘Weird’: Here’s Your First Look At Evan Rachel Wood As Madonna In The Weird Al Biopic

Recently, it was announced that Daniel Radcliffe would portray Weird Al Yankovic in a rock biopic, “Weird,” about the artist. Roku has announced that Evan Rachel Wood has joined the cast of “Weird,” the upcoming biopic about Weird Al Yankovic. In the film, Wood is set to play Madonna. Now, you might be wondering why Madonna has such a large role in “Weird,” considering the only relationship Weird Al and the pop star have experienced is with the former covering the latter’s music in a parody fashion. Well, this is where the true nature of “Weird” becomes apparent. You see, the biopic is not really a biopic, but more of a parody itself.

Based on the short film/fake trailer of the same name, “Weird” provides a fictionalized version of Al Yankovic’s life story, making it more dramatic and ridiculous to fit the preferred rock bio format. You see, Weird Al’s life is pretty normal with no real run-ins with the law or drug abuse that would make for great entertainment, so writer-director Eric Appel is going to, uh, invent some. Enter Madonna.

As seen in the original trailer, Madonna (played by Olivia Wilde) is the love interest of the film, experiencing the highs and lows of life with the hard-partying Weird Al (played by Aaron Paul). So, in the feature version of the story, you can assume they’ll flesh out the Madonna/Weird Al relationship to show just what happened in the torrid love affair.

There’s no release date for “Weird” just yet, but you can see the first look of Wood in full Madonna garb (and also the original short) below:
