In a climate where blockbusters seem to try and best each other by getting more and more frenzied, it’s a bit refreshing to hear of a movie that’s taking a more considered approach. The upcoming video game adaptation "Assassin’s Creed" has a lot riding on its shoulders as the possible start of a new franchise, but according to Michael Fassbender, the goal is to keep it real, both literally and figuratively.

“We’re not trying to make it too crazy violent, although obviously there is an element of that, but what is really cool is that our action sequences are on real sets and real locations,” the actor told Empire.
Directed by Justin Kurzel and co-starring Marion Cotillard, the movie finds the actor re-teaming with his "Macbeth" pals, but for a project that will draw its influence from something far different than the Bard.
“I’ve always thought about ‘The Matrix‘ when we’ve approached this,” he said. “This idea of DNA memory elevates it from a basic fantasy genre [piece], because you have something an audience can actually believe in. Then the journey becomes so much more elevated, because you’re on board in a different way.”
And part of that process includes a heavy reliance on practical effects, with the actor stressing green screen is only being used sparingly.
