Werner Herzog Keeps Teasing Us With The 'Bad Lieutenant'

… and says absolutely nothing! Or at least nothing we haven’t heard before.

But it’s a slow day and we love director Werner Herzog. For the 10th trillion time, Herzog says he’s never seen the original “Bad Lieutenant” scuzzfest that Abel Ferrara directed with Harvey Keitel back in 1992 (Ferrara’s last good film? Basically yes, but “Go Go Tales” still hasn’t screened far and wide*).

“I haven’t seen [‘Bad Lieutenant’], ao I can’t compare it. It has nothing to do with it,” he reiterated to MTV.

As previously reported, Herzog says the not-a-remake is a old form with a new twist. “I think it’s a new form of film noir. It’s not a remake. It’s a completely independent autonomous story.” Again, he lauds lead star Nicolas Cage. “Nicolas was terrific. You will see something extraordinary when you see him on screen. It’s the best he’s ever done.”

Ok, what we really want to know: when is it coming out? Jesus, no one still seems to even know a rough timeframe, ugh. The film also co-stars Eva Mendes, Val Kilmer and Xzibit, but Herzog has already moved on to the murderous horror film “My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done,” so does that mean, ‘Lieutenant’ has finished its post-production and just needs a distributor? Last we heard, yes. Can someone buy this thing so we can see it already?

*Nor will it ever as distributors seemed to pass on it despite the delicious opportunity to see a very naked Asia Argento making out with a pitbull.
