'The Wild Pear Tree' Teaser: Nuri Bilge Ceylan Is Back With One Of The Best-Reviewed Films From Cannes

Turkish filmmaker Nuri Bilge Ceylan has already achieved the highest possible honor at the Cannes Film Festival, by winning the coveted Palme d’Or back in 2014 for his film “Winter Sleep.” Since then, everyone has been eagerly awaiting his next film, and at this year’s Cannes, “The Wild Pear Tree” (or as it’s known in Turkey, “Ahlat Ağacı”) premiered. Now, finally, we have our first look at the film.

Not going to lie, the first teaser for “The Wild Pear Tree” isn’t that exciting. It’s not that anything that’s shown is particularly bad. However, not a lot happens. There’s no hint at a plot. There’s no dialogue. But what you get is a series of beautiful images that show that Ceylan definitely knows how to compose a shot.

The film was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or this year, however, Ceylan wasn’t able to make it two wins in a row. That being said, “The Wild Pear Tree” did receive incredible reviews coming out of the festival, and if you were a fan of “Winter Sleep,” then you’re probably going to want to seek this film out when it comes to your area.

As mentioned, the film premiered at last month’s Cannes and already has release dates lined up for Turkey in June and France in August. However, there’s no US release date set at this time. Of course, it’s only a matter of time that this acclaimed film makes its way across the ocean.

Here’s the synopsis for the film:

An aspiring writer returns to his native village in rural Turkey, where he becomes overwhelmed by his father’s debts.
