To say that transgender issues are a polarizing topic in today’s society is an understatement. There are many people, including politicians, who are actively trying to limit the rights of trans people under the guise of protecting children. It’s ridiculous, to say the least. But the fervor seems to be working when it comes to corporations, such as Disney and the upcoming series “Win or Lose.”

According to THR, Disney has decided to remove a trans storyline from the upcoming Pixar series “Win or Lose.” The series follows the story of a co-ed kids softball team as they prepare for a big game. Each episode is said to follow one person related to the team, showcasing their personal lives. Apparently, one of those later episodes involves a trans player on the team. But any mention of the kid’s identity has reportedly been removed.

Here’s an official statement from Disney about the situation:
“When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline.”
What’s interesting about this is just how Disney picks and chooses its fights. Sure, the company is going to mandate that “Win or Lose” drop its trans storyline, but over on the cable channel Disney, Jr. (aimed directly at preschool children), there’s all sorts of LGBTQ characters making regular appearances in cartoons. It’s wonderful. In fact, there’s a recurring character on “Spidey and His Amazing Friends” who is non-binary and goes by they/them pronouns. But the company isn’t forcing the people who work on that show to change it.
It just goes to show you that this “Win or Lose” situation is completely arbitrary and not some sort of true corporate mandate. It’s sad that this is even an issue.
“Win or Lose” is expected to arrive on Disney+ in 2025.
