Got a Tip?

‘World Of Warcraft’ Continues Journey To The Big Screen With ‘Blood Diamond’ Writer Charles Leavitt

nullIf engaging in the game's online world just isn't enough for you, never fear as Blizzard Entertainment continue to develop their massively popular video game "World of Warcraft" for the big screen, with a new writer coming on board. Director Sam Raimi and screenwriter Robert Rodat ("Saving Private Ryan") had been working on the project for years, but at the San Diego Comic-Con, Raimi admitted that his commitment to "Oz The Great and Powerful" had forced Blizzard and Legendary Entertainment to move on "to another director" — one that has yet to be named.

But, we at least know who will be writing the adaptation, as Charles Leavitt ("Blood Diamond," "The Mighty") has taken over the project. Reportedly, Legendary is quite sold on Leavitt's take on the material and could start aggressively moving forward with a director search in the coming months. Legendary already has a relationship with Leavitt, who penned the fantasy flick "The Seventh Son," that is being direceted by Sergey Bodrov for release next fall. But it's not the only video game Legendary is looking at, as they are also developing a long-brewing adaptation of BioWare's "Mass Effect" video game.

It's doubtful we'll see any of Leavitt's results any time soon, however, as 2014 is the earliest a "World of Warcraft" movie could hit theaters. So, avid "WoW" gamers…as you were. [THR/Variety]
