Got a Tip?

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Will Be “Bigger” Than ‘Future Past’ And Deal With “Ancient Mutancy”

X-Men: Days Of Future Past

There’s over a month still to go until “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” arrives in theaters. With the era of franchises and sequels in full bloom, that means it’s time to start discussing the inevitable followup, “X-Men: Apocalypse,” already slated for 2016. Singer, along with producer/writer Simon Kinberg, has teased some details about what to expect from the movie that will be “somewhat” based on 1990 comic run, “Age Of Apocalypse” (it starts with Charles Xavier’s son going back in time to kill Magneto — read more here).

The first thing you should is that, of course, there are promises that the next movie be even more sizzling than ‘Future Past,’ with Kinberg telling EW, “From a visual standpoint it actually may be a bigger movie than ‘Days of Future Past’ because there’ll be disaster movie imagery, like the title would imply.”

Meanwhile Singer makes it clear that ‘Future Past’ sets the table for ‘Apocalypse,’ but in ways that are a bit different than your average credit stinger. “You won’t feel at the end of the movie that it set up ‘Apocalypse.’ What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we’ll discover in ‘Apocalypse’ is that events in this movie made that happen,” he said.

He continued, discussing just what the followup would be about. “ ‘Apocalypse’ deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You’re dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?”

Big questions, but will a big cast be returning like they did for ‘Future Past’? Not likely. Singer confirms that ‘Apocalypse’ will bring the focus back on the ‘First Class,’ with Charles (James McAvoy), Erik (Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawerence) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult), with all four signed for the sequel.

So, there you bigger and leaner at the same time. “X-Men: Apocalypse” arrives on May 27, 2016. [Photos via CBM]
