First Look: Xavier Dolan Begins Production on 'Matthias & Maxime' As We Get A Look At The Cast

We are still awaiting the world premiere of Xavier Dolan’sThe Death and Life of John F. Donovan,” but that doesn’t mean the filmmaker is slowing down. According to new reports, Dolan is already hard at work on production for his latest film “Matthias & Maxime.”

There are no details on what the plot for the film might be, but Twitter has your first look at the film, which is said to be set in Québec and focuses on a group of late-twentysomethings. So, let your imagination run wild! The tweet also mentions the cast, which includes Dolan himself starring alongside Anne Dorval, Antoine-Olivier Pilon, Gabriel D’Almeida Freitas, Pier-Luc Funk, Samuel Gauthier, Adib Alkhalidey, Catherine Brunet, and Marilyn Castonguay.

As mentioned above, a new Dolan film is always great news, especially for those who are anxiously awaiting ‘John F. Donovan.’ Even though its only been a couple years since the filmmakers’ last film, it feels like an eternity has passed since, and film fans are desperate for word on ‘Donovan.’ With an all-star cast that includes Natalie Portman, Kit Harrington, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates, Jacob Tremblay, and at one point, Jessica Chastain, ‘Donovan’ is highly-anticipated but has been the subject of many rumors.

There have been reports that the production was troubled, with the filmmaker having issues editing the film (thus removing Chastain completely from the film). It’s also been rumored that these behind-the-scenes issues have made it so Dolan was struggling to find a place to premiere the film. However, with the Toronto International Film Festival premiere right around the corner, it looks like Dolan already has his sights set on the next production.

Obviously, there’s no word on when we will see “Matthias & Maxime,” as the film is still in production. We also don’t have word on when fans outside of TIFF will get a chance to see ‘John F. Donovan.’ So, it appears we have plenty of Xavier Dolan news coming soon.
