Emma Stone and filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos are on a roll, so much so they could be one of the next great actor/director partnerships like Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio or perhaps a more appropriate analogy, George Cukor and Katharine Hepburn (who did eight films between 1932 and 1952).

The duo, who are currently promoting their third film together, the fabulous demented Frankenstein-esque tale of self-actualization, “Poor Things,” have actually made three films together. Their first collaboration was 2018’s “The Favourite,” which earned Stone her third Oscar nomination, they then worked on the short film, “Bleat,” that has gone mostly unseen to the majority of audiences and now 2023’s “Poor Things.”
And as keen fans know, their fourth collaboration, a film called, “Kind Of Kindness,” which was originally titled “AND,” is already shot, in the can and being edited now as we speak.
Reuniting Lanthimos’ with his original screenwriting partner Efthymis Filippou, he co-wrote “Dogtooth,” “Alps,” “The Lobster,” and “The Killing Of A Sacred Deer”—the Greek filmmaker has recently switched to Tony McNamara who wrote “Poor Things”—not much is known about “Kind Of Kindness” other than its an anthology film and its cast.

The film stars Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer. Searchlight Pictures is distributing the film and it could even come out sometime in late 2024. So are their conversations beyond “Kind Of Kindness” Stone asked Lanthimos, seemingly asking his approval before answering the question of what’s next between them.
But there’s more. In a recent edition of the Little Gold Men podcast, Lanthimos teased that “Kind Of Kindness is being finished now and they are even talking about working together on the filmmaker’s next next project.
“I mean, yeah. After we finish one, we discuss the next one,” Lanthimos said. “So we’ve shot this feature film in New Orleans [‘Kind Of Kindness’] which we are now editing and ‘Poor Things’ is out now and yeah, we’re discussing about doing something together again [after that].”
What that project is exactly is unknown, but if it happen and Stone once again appears that would make it five projects in a row. What’s on Lanthimos’ docket? Well there is another Tony McNamara project called, “Hawkline Monster” which should be considered a potential option, and there’s also an adaptation of Jim Thompson’s “Pop. 1280,”and a Fox Searchlight TV project called, “The Man In The Rockefeller Suit,” though one has to wonder if that’s still happening given how the era of “everyone gets their own TV series project!” is coming to an end as studios pivot back to filmmaking.
Stone is also rumored to be starring in Ari Aster‘s next project, a “Western-noir dark ensemble comedy” called “Eddington,” set during the pandemic that looks like it will also re-team Aster with Joaquin Phoenix and reportedly shoots next year. Whether that’s true or not is unclear, but Stone is clearly a fan, having hosted many screenings and Q&As of Aster’s “Beau Is Afraid” (and it’s not the first time she’s been rumored for an forthcoming Aster movie he’s apparently quietly developing). Aster recently confirmed, to Yorgos Lanthimos no less (see below), that Phoenix would be starring in his next project and that’s definitely “Eddington,” so hopefully we learn more about who’s in that ensemble cast soon.
