You Can Be His Wingman Anytime? 'Top Gun 2' Sequel On The Way?

Maverick: “Tower, this is Ghost rider requesting a flyby.”
Air Boss Johnson: “That’s a negative Ghost rider, the pattern is full.”

Let’s face it. This is never going to happen and the British rag press is retarded, but it is fun to write about. Apparently there’s talk of a “Top Gun” sequel 22 years after the fact, but it all depends on Tom Cruise’s approval and involvement (which will never happen in a million years). A script outline has been written (ha, which is kind of like saying, a piece of paper was written on, whoopdedoo!).

An insider said: “The idea is Maverick is at the Top Gun school as an instructor — and this time it is he who has to deal with a cocky new female pilot.”

File under why is the British press wasting our time? Wait, why are we writing about this then? Simple, we just saw “Top Gun” over the weekend late at night on TV (Val Kilmer is so amazing in the ’80s) and two, it’s a perfect excuse to post the amazing “Top Gun Theme” which we hope to play at our wedding one day. It doesn’t get more awesome than this. “Top Gun” is also notable for marking the days when Tony Scott had some semblance of knowledge on how to direct a film. Also did you realize, Cruise’s post-Goose navigator at the end of the film, Merlin, is played by Tim Robbins in a very early role for him? Hey, Maverick does say he wants to be a Top Gun instructor at the end of the film though, right? Dare to dream… [via Videogum]
