'Young Woman And The Sea' Trailer: Inspiring Historical Drama Starring Daisy Ridley Hits Select Theaters On May 31

Daisy Ridley‘s acting career since “Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker” has been, let’s say, uneven. Sure, “Sometimes I Think About Dying” is a provocative character study and a solid performance by the actress. But then there’s stuff Doug Liman‘s dismal “Chaos Walking” and “The Marsh King’s Daughter,” two films not exactly tailor-made for Ridley’s talents.

Maybe a historical drama will be more Ridley’s speed, as that’s what the actress has in theaters next. “Young Woman And The Sea” stars Ridley in a story about the real-life quest of Gertrude Ederle, an American woman who defied the odds to become the most accomplished female swimmer of her generation.

Here’s an official synopsis of “Young Woman And The Sea,” courtesy of Disney:

Daisy Ridley stars as the accomplished swimmer who was born to immigrant parents in New York City in 1905. Through the steadfast support of her older sister and supportive trainers, she overcame adversity and the animosity of a patriarchal society to rise through the ranks of the Olympic swimming team and complete the staggering achievement – a 21-mile trek from France to England.

Along with Ridley, “Young Woman And The Sea” also stars Tilda Cobham-HerveyStephen GrahamKim BodniaChristopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler.

Joachim Rønning directs a script by Jeff Nathanson, based on Glenn Stout‘s 2009 book of the same name.  Jerry Bruckheimer leads producers with Chad Oman and Jeff Nathanson. Ridley and Rønning executive produce the feature with John G. Scotti.

“Young Woman And The Sea” opens in select theaters on May 31, 2024. And if the inspiring historical drama isn’t a match for Ridley either, the actress tries her hand next at other genres: “Magpie,” a neo-noir, “Cleaner,” an actioner, and the survival thriller “We Bury The Dead,” all sure to hit theaters soon.
