According to a recent interview with Reese Witherspoon, Rule No. 1 for her production company, Hello Sunshine, to decide whether or not to green light a project is that it must be entertaining. Past productions under the Sunshine banner, like “Gone Girl,” “Wild,” and “Big Little Lies” prove this point. “You’re Cordially Invited” is a tad different however. Unlike more dramatic or suspenseful movies, ‘Invited’ is an outright comedy, if not a farce. The classic wedding mix-up premise makes that evident.

While pairing Will Ferrell with Reese Witherspoon might sound odd to a viewer not accustomed to the comedic actor and the more dramatically-inclined actress sharing a screen together, if it’s anything as entertaining as Witherspoon’s previous production credits then it’s sure to be a fun watch. Comedy specialist Nicholas Stoller (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” “Neighbors,” and “Bros”) being behind the feature as writer/director certainly doesn’t hurt either.
“You’re Cordially Invited” stars Will Ferrell, Reese Witherspoon, Geraldine Viswanathan, Meredith Hagner, Celia Weston, Jimmy Tatro, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Leanne Morgan, Jimmy Tatro, Jack McBrayer, and Lauren Holt. Nicholas Stoller is writer/director. Stoller, Conor Welch, Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Will Ferrell, and Jessica Elbaum serve as producers.
The movie follows a bride (Viswanathan) and her father (Ferrell) who discover their wedding destination is double booked for another bride (Hagner) and her wedding-planner sister (Witherspoon). Disaster ensues in their attempt to share the venue.
Synopsis:
A woman planning her sister’s perfect wedding and the father of a young bride-to-be find out that they are double booked for their destination wedding at a remote resort on an island off the Georgia coast. When both parties decide to share the small venue, chaos ensues, and disaster awaits.
