One of the best things about the upcoming release of Zack Snyder’s version of “Justice League” is that once the film hits HBO Max in March, we can (hopefully) move on and talk about other projects from the filmmaker. And it appears that he’s already got “Army of the Dead” ready to go for the summer on Netflix, so the next several months are going to be chock full of Snyder goodness for his fans. But what about after that? Well, perhaps the filmmaker will tackle King Arthur?

Speaking with the folks at I Minutemen, Snyder talked about mythology and all that, specifically in regards to his superhero work and whatnot. And this led to someone on the show opining about the lack of mythological and medieval films, as of late.
“I’ve been working on something, but we’ll see…” said Snyder about a possible medieval feature. “I’ve been thinking about some kind of retelling, like a real sort of faithful retelling of that Arthurian mythological concept. We’ll see. Maybe that will come at some point.”
The Arthurian legend has been tackled a number of times in films and TV series. Obviously, when you think of recent attempts, you can’t help but be reminded of Guy Ritchie’s “King Arthur,” which has Charlie Hunnam in the lead role.
However, when you consider what a Zack Snyder version of the myth might look like, it could be interesting. Arguably, we’ve seen what he does in that sort of genre with “300,” which is an ultra-stylized action film take on a similar type of story. But if Snyder is hoping to take a “faithful retelling” stance on the subject matter, maybe it wouldn’t have all the bells and whistles that we typically see in his features.
Well, to be honest, it probably will. But you know what? No matter what you think about Snyder’s features, whether you’re an avid fan or someone that doesn’t connect with them, there’s really no denying that he has a really unique style and is a pretty great visual storyteller. So, I’d much rather see him take on King Arthur than a courtroom drama or a period romance.
“Zack Snyder’s Justice League” is set to arrive on HBO Max on March 18.
