Derek Cianfrance is a surprise awards-season winner. Tucked away on the list of those who took home trophies last night at the DGAs was the “Blue Valentine” filmmaker, who won Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials for his Nike Golf spot. Indeed, Cianfrance is no stranger to the world of advertising, having also helmed spots for Apple, Powerade, Electronic Arts, and Dick’s Sporting Goods. And now he heads into the Super Bowl with another promo.
Michelob Ultra gets an athletic commercial from the director, who highlights the low-carb beer with the theme from “Cheers” and a bunch of people vigorously working out. It’s simple yet effective, though I’d imagine if you’re looking for a low-carb beverage, beer wouldn’t be your first choice anyway.
