Could Nicole Kidman‘s best work in 2017 come from the small screen? With two series on our Most Anticipated TV Shows Of 2017 feature — “Big Little Lies” and “Top Of The Lake: China Girl” — she’ll be working with great material, and the first look at Kidman in the latter series has now landed.
Co-directed by returning helmer Jane Campion and Ariel Kleinman, with Elisabeth Moss back to star, the new set of episodes sees Detective Robin Griffin working on a case that takes her Sydney, and crossing paths with Kidman’s Julia. Here’s the official synopsis:

“Top of the Lake: China Girl” is a crime mystery story that finds Detective Robin Griffin, recently returned to Sydney and trying to rebuild her life. When the body of an Asian girl washes up on Bondi Beach, there appears little hope of finding the killer, until Robin realizes that “China Girl” didn’t die alone. Robin’s search to discover “China Girl’s” identity takes her into the city’s criminal underbelly and closer than she could have imagined to the secrets of her own heart.
“Top Of The Lake: China Girl” will be released on SundanceTV in 2017.
