No word on his exact role yet, but it’s reported that it will be a supporting role, and he may possibly also produce the film. ‘Absolutely True Diary’ tells the story of a young teen named Junior, an aspiring cartoonist, who decides to leave his school on the Spokane Indian Reservation to go to an all-white public school off the reservation. The novel has become a huge hit, tackling issues such as alcoholishm, bullying, poverty, and violence.
The novel was written by Sherman Alexie, who will also write the script for the adaptation. He is perhaps best known for writing the scripting the film “Smoke Signals,” which is also based on his own work. FOX 2000 has acquired the rights for ‘Absolutely True Diary,’ and while no director has been announced, Jackman’s name will surely bring in some top tier talent. [THR]
