James Gray's 'The Lost City Of Z' Will Close The New York Film Festival

As the organizers of festivals in Venice, Telluride, Toronto and New York bump elbows to land the cream of the crop movies to have among their World Premiere titles, there are some highly sought-after treasures. And surely one of the biggest this year is James Gray‘s “The Lost City Of Z,” and the New York Film Festival has landed it.

This morning it was announced that “The Lost City Of Z” will be the Closing Night film at the 54th New York Film Festival, screening on Saturday, October 15th. James Gray’s epic tells the story of Lieutenant Colonel Percy Fawcett (Charlie Hunnam), the British military-man-turned-explorer whose search for a lost city deep in the Amazon grows into an increasingly feverish, decades-long magnificent obsession that takes a toll on his reputation, his home life with his wife (Sienna Miller) and children, and his very existence.

Lensed by cinematographer Darius Khondji, with a cast rounded out by Robert Pattinson and Tom Holland, this is certainly very high on our must-see list this fall.

There’s no release date yet for the movie, but I’d wager Paramount will wait to see what the reception is like at NYFF before deciding on a possible awards season run.
